- 1.On Monday, a runner covers 15 km in 2.5 hours. On Tuesday, she covers 12 km in 1.5 hours. Using the formula speed = distance ÷ time, work out on which day she ran faster, and by how much.
- 2.Which of these quadratic graphs does NOT cross the x-axis at all?
- 3.Describe a sequence of two transformations that maps the graph of y = x² onto the graph of y = −(x − 5)².y = x²
- 4.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation y = (2x/5) − 3.
- 5.A triangle has vertices at (1, 1), (1, 5) and (6, 1). Work out the area of the triangle.
- 6.A number machine multiplies its input by 2 and then subtracts 5. Work out the output when the input is 6.
- 7.A straight line has equation y = 4x + 3. A second line is parallel to the first line and passes through the point (0, −5). Work out the equation of the second line.y = 4x + 3
- 8.The formula for the area of a trapezium is A = (a + b)h / 2, where a and b are the parallel side lengths and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 9.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² − 3, where n is the position number. Work out the difference between the 6th term and the 5th term.
- 10.The graph of y = x² − 4x is translated by the vector (3, 0). Work out the equation of the image, giving your answer in the form y = x² + bx + c.y = x² − 4xy = x²
- 11.The trapezium rule is used to estimate the area under a curve between x = 2 and x = 6. The curve is concave up (it curves upwards, like the inside of a bowl) throughout this interval. Which statement about the estimate is correct?
- 12.A region S consists of every point that lies on or above the line y = 2, on or below the line y = x, and on or to the left of the line x = 6. Which of these is the system of inequalities that defines S?y = x
- 13.One solution of the equation x² − (k + 1)x + k = 0 is x = 3. Work out the value of k.
- 14.Solve the inequality x² + 6x + 9 > 0.
