- 1.The first four terms of a sequence are 4, 9, 14, 19. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 2.A graph passes through the point (0, 1). As x increases through positive values, the graph rises more and more steeply, and as x decreases through negative values, the graph gets closer and closer to the x-axis without ever reaching it. Which of these could be the equation of the graph?
- 3.f(x) = x + 3 and g(x) = 2x. Work out fg(x).y = x + 3
- 4.Subtract, giving your answer as a single fraction in its simplest form: 4/(x − 1) − 2/(x + 3)
- 5.The point (18, 24) lies on the circle x² + y² = 900, which has centre (0, 0). The tangent to the circle at (18, 24) crosses the y-axis at the point Q. Work out the y-coordinate of Q.
- 6.The diagram shows part of the graph of a reciprocal function of the form , passing through the labelled point. Work out the value of k.
- 7.Ethan is 10 years old and his father is 40 years old. Work out how many years ago Ethan's father was seven times as old as Ethan.
- 8.A regular hexagon has sides of length (x + 2) cm. Write down an expression, in terms of x, for the perimeter of the hexagon.
- 9.By completing the square, find the turning point of the curve y = 3x² + 12x + 7.y = 3x² + 12x + 7
- 10.A ribbon of length L metres is cut into 5 equal pieces, and then 3 metres is removed from one piece. Write down an expression, in metres, for the length of that piece after 3 metres is removed.
- 11.A table shows y = x² − 6x + 5 at these points (x, y): (0, 5), (1, 0), (2, −3), (3, −4), (4, −3), (5, 0), (6, 5). Using the symmetry shown, write down the x-coordinate of the turning point.y = x² − 6x + 5
- 12.The area of a triangle is given by the formula A = bh/2, where b is the base and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 13.Simplify 2/(x + 1) + 3/(x − 2), giving your answer as a single fraction.
- 14.Work out the coordinates of the point halfway between (−9, −2) and (−1, −2).
- 15.Write down the first four terms of the sequence with nth term 6n − 5.
