- 1.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = −1, 0, 1, 2 and the matching outputs are y = 5, 3, 1, −1. Work out the rule.
- 2.A plumber charges a call-out fee plus an hourly rate. The total cost, y in pounds, of a job lasting x hours is given by y = 45x + 60. Work out the total cost of a job that lasts 3 hours.y = 45x + 60
- 3.The discriminant of a quadratic equation is greater than zero. Which statement about the solutions of that equation is correct?
- 4.The table shows the height, in metres, of a firework rocket at various times, in seconds, during its flight: 40 at t = 2, 54 at t = 3, and 60 at t = 4. Use the chord between t = 2 and t = 4 to estimate the gradient of the height-time graph at t = 3, stating the correct units.
- 5.Write down the first four terms of the sequence with nth term 6n − 5.
- 6.Solve x² − 8x + 3 = 0 by completing the square. Give your answers in surd form.
- 7.The graph of y = 20/x is drawn for x > 0. As the value of x increases, what happens to the value of y?
- 8.f(x) = x + 3 and g(x) = 2x. Work out fg(x).y = x + 3
- 9.The function f(x) = x² for all real values of x has no inverse function, but g(x) = x² for x ≥ 0 does have one. Which statement correctly explains this?y = x²
- 10.Describe the single transformation that maps the graph of y = f(x) onto the graph of y = f(−x).
- 11.A line segment has one endpoint at (−6, 2) and its midpoint at (−1, 5). Work out the coordinates of the other endpoint.
- 12.Water is poured into a container at a constant rate. A graph of the depth of the water, in cm, against the time since pouring began, in minutes, is a straight line through the origin, and it passes through the point (3, 12). Use the graph to work out the depth of the water after 7 minutes.
- 13.The area of a circle is given by the formula A = πr², where r is the radius. Rearrange the formula to make r the subject.
- 14.The nth term of a sequence is 3n² + 2n − 1. Work out the 10th term.
- 15.To rearrange y = 2x − 5 to make x the subject, Sam writes: 'Add 5 to both sides to get y + 5 = 2x, then divide both sides by 2 to get x = (y + 5)/2.' Which statement about Sam's method is correct?y = 2x − 5
