- 1.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation y = (2x/5) − 3.
- 2.The point (−4, 7) is moved 4 units to the right and 9 units down. Write down the coordinates of the point it reaches.
- 3.The graph of y = f(x) has x-intercepts at x = −2 and x = 6 and crosses the y-axis at (0, −12). Work out the x-intercepts and the y-intercept of y = −f(x).
- 4.The first five terms of a sequence are 7, 9, 13, 19, 27. By finding the second difference, work out the coefficient of n² in the nth term.
- 5.Tom buys 2 notebooks and 6 pencils on Monday, priced at p pence each for a notebook and q pence each for a pencil. On Tuesday he buys 3 more notebooks and 1 more pencil. Write a simplified expression, in pence, for the total amount Tom has spent on notebooks and pencils.
- 6.Solve the simultaneous equations 5x − 2y = 16 and 3x + 2y = 16. Work out the value of x.
- 7.f(x) = 3x − 2. Find f⁻¹(x).y = 3x − 2
- 8.Describe the single transformation that maps the graph of y = x² onto the graph of y = x² + 3.y = x²y = x² + 3
- 9.A distance-time graph is a straight line from (0, 0) to (4, 100), where time is in hours and distance is in kilometres. Work out the gradient of the line.
- 10.Make x the subject of the formula y = 3(x + 2).
- 11.Amelia's mother is three times as old as Amelia. Four years ago her mother was five times as old as Amelia was then. Work out Amelia's age now.
- 12.A gym charges a reduced price for the first month of membership and a standard price for every month after that. The total cost is £5 for 1 month, £12 for 2 months, £19 for 3 months and £26 for 4 months. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the total cost, in pounds, of n months of membership.
- 13.A recipe gives the cooking time, in minutes, for a chicken as T = 40m + 20, where m is the mass in kg. A chicken has a mass of 1.8 kg. Work out the cooking time in hours and minutes.
- 14.The curve y = −x² + 6x − 5 has a maximum point. Use completing the square to find its coordinates.y = −x² + 6x − 5
- 15.Describe a sequence of two transformations that maps the graph of y = cos x onto the graph of y = cos(x + 90°) − 2.y = cos(x)
