- 1.Three vertices of a rectangle are (−4, −1), (2, −1) and (2, 3). The sides of the rectangle are parallel to the axes. Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 2.The graph of y = x² + 2x − 15 crosses the x-axis at two points. By factorising, work out the x-coordinates of these two points.y = x² + 2x − 15
- 3.The graph of y = x³ − 5x is reflected in the y-axis. Work out the equation of the image.y = x
- 4.The simultaneous equations kx + 2y = 4 and 3x + y = 5 have no solution. Work out the value of k.
- 5.Make x the subject of the formula y = x/2 − 5.y = x
- 6.The nth term of a sequence is n² − 2n + 5. Work out the 10th term.
- 7.A quadratic graph y = ax² + bx + c has its turning point on the y-axis. Which statement about its roots must be true?
- 8.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² − 3, where n is the position number. Work out the difference between the 6th term and the 5th term.
- 9.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x − y = 2.
- 10.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £30 plus £25 per hour worked. Work out the total charge for a job that takes 3 hours.
- 11.A straight line has gradient −2 and passes through the point (3, 1). Work out the equation of the line.
- 12.A delivery van's distance-time graph shows the following: it travels 9 km in the first 15 minutes at a steady speed, stops for 45 minutes to unload, then travels a further 21 km in the next 30 minutes, also at a steady speed. Work out the average speed, in km/h, for the whole journey.
- 13.The point (3, 4) lies on the circle x² + y² = 25, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the gradient of the tangent to the circle at (3, 4).
- 14.A phone plan costs a fixed £15 per month plus 8p per minute of calls. In one month, Jamal's bill was £23.80. Form an equation using m for the number of minutes, and solve it to find how many minutes Jamal used that month.
- 15.The first four terms of a sequence are 9, 14, 19, 24. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
