- 1.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 3y = 12 − 6x.
- 2.A table shows y = x² − 6x + 5 at these points (x, y): (0, 5), (1, 0), (2, −3), (3, −4), (4, −3), (5, 0), (6, 5). Using the symmetry shown, write down the x-coordinate of the turning point.y = x² − 6x + 5
- 3.A car's journey is represented by a velocity-time graph. The total distance travelled, found from the area under the graph, is 350 metres, and the total time for the journey is 25 seconds. Work out the car's average speed for the whole journey, in m/s.
- 4.A graph shows the total monthly cost of a mobile phone tariff against the number of minutes of calls. The line starts at £12 and stays level until 200 minutes, then rises by 5p for each further minute of calls. Use the graph to work out the total cost of a month in which 250 minutes of calls are made.
- 5.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = −1, 0, 1, 2 and the matching outputs are y = 5, 3, 1, −1. Work out the rule.
- 6.A mobile phone plan charges a fixed monthly fee plus an amount for each gigabyte of data used. The total cost £C for using g gigabytes in a month is given by C = 15 + 2g. What does the number 2 represent in this formula?
- 7.A ribbon of length L metres is cut into 5 equal pieces, and then 3 metres is removed from one piece. Write down an expression, in metres, for the length of that piece after 3 metres is removed.
- 8.Solve the inequality 3x + 6 ≤ 0.
- 9.The nth term of a sequence is n² − 2n + 5. Work out the 10th term.
- 10.Solve the inequality 5 − x ≤ 2.
- 11.f(x) = x² − 1 and g(x) = 3x. Work out fg(4).y = x² − 1
- 12.A point has coordinates (x, y). In which two quadrants is the product x × y positive?
- 13.The point A(−6, 8) lies on the circle x² + y² = 100, whose centre is the origin O. The tangent to the circle at A crosses the y-axis at the point B. Work out the length of OB.
- 14.By completing the square, find the turning point of the curve y = x² + 8x − 3.y = x² + 8x − 3
- 15.A number machine multiplies its input by 2 and then subtracts 5. Work out the output when the input is 6.
