- 1.Solve 7x − 5 = 3x + 11
- 2.Write down the expression that means the same as m² × m × 3.
- 3.A company's weekly profit, P thousand pounds, when it makes x thousand items is modelled by P = x² − 8x + 12, for x ≥ 0. Work out the values of x for which the company makes a loss.
- 4.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 1, where n is the position number. Work out how much bigger the 5th term is than the 4th term.
- 5.A line segment has one endpoint at (−6, 2) and its midpoint at (−1, 5). Work out the coordinates of the other endpoint.
- 6.The graph of y = x² − 5x + 6 crosses the x-axis at two points. By factorising, work out the x-coordinates of these two points.y = x² − 5x + 6
- 7.Write down the expression that means the same as 'subtract 5 from n, then divide the result by 2'.
- 8.Explain why the equation 4x + 3 = 4x + 10 has no solution for x.
- 9.The graph of y = sin x is transformed onto the graph of y = sin x + 1. Which statement correctly describes the transformation and the new range of the graph?y = sin(x)
- 10.A taxi fare, in pounds, for a journey of m miles is given by the formula F = 3 + 2.5m. A journey costs £15.50. Work out the distance travelled, m, by first rearranging the formula to make m the subject, then substituting F = 15.50.
- 11.A quadratic graph has equation y = (x − 4)². A student says this graph crosses the x-axis at two different points. Explain why the student is wrong.
- 12.A sequence begins at 60, and each term after that is found by subtracting 7 from the term before it. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 13.Solve the simultaneous equations y = x + 1 and x² + y² = 25, giving both pairs of solutions.y = x + 1
- 14.A line has equation y = −4x + 1. Work out the equation of the line perpendicular to it that passes through the point (0, 3).y = -4x + 1
- 15.Solve the inequality x² − 5x + 6 < 0.
