- 1.Which of these pairs of lines are perpendicular to each other?
- 2.Which expression means 'add 3 to n, then multiply the result by 4'?
- 3.Which of these is an identity?
- 4.A candidate solves the inequality x² > 9 and writes: "x² > 9, so x > 3." Which of these is a correct comment on the candidate's work?
- 5.Kai writes the expression 8 − 3x + 5x² and says it has three terms. Ryan says it only has two terms because a number on its own is not a term. Work out the correct number of terms in the expression.
- 6.Yusuf has £40 saved and adds £6 each week. His sister Aisha has £10 saved and adds £11 each week. After how many weeks will they have saved the same amount?
- 7.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 8.A car's velocity–time graph is a straight line from (0 s, 4 m/s) rising to (6 s, V m/s), followed by a straight line falling from (6 s, V m/s) to (9 s, 0 m/s). The gradient of the second line is −8 m/s². Work out the total distance travelled between t = 0 and t = 9 seconds.
- 9.A circle has centre (0, 0) and passes through the point (5, 12). Work out the equation of the circle.
- 10.Two numbers have a sum of 24. Their difference is 6. Work out the two numbers.
- 11.A bath is filled with water; the graph of volume (litres) against time (minutes) is a curve, since the flow rate changes. The tangent to the curve at t = 10 minutes passes through the points (8, 130) and (12, 190), and the volume in the bath at t = 10 minutes is 160 litres. Use the gradient of this tangent to estimate the volume in the bath 5 minutes after t = 10 minutes.
- 12.Make x the subject of the formula y = 3(x + 2).
- 13.Line L has equation y = 3x − 2. Work out the gradient of a line perpendicular to L.y = 3x − 2
- 14.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 25. Work out the x-coordinates of the two points where the circle crosses the line y = 3.
- 15.The nth term of a sequence is 3n² + 2n − 1. Work out the 10th term.
