- 1.A car's windscreen wiper blade is 40 cm long and sweeps through an angle of 110° as it wipes the glass. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of glass it wipes, to the nearest cm².
- 2.A shape is translated by the vector (5, −3), and the image is then translated by the vector (−5, 3). Which single transformation has the same overall effect as this combination, for every point?
- 3.A goat is tied by a rope 7 m long to a post at a corner of a rectangular field, where two fences meet at a right angle. The goat can reach anywhere inside the field that the rope allows. Using π = 3.14, work out the area the goat can graze, to the nearest square metre.
- 4.A scale drawing uses a scale of 1 : 60. A path on the drawing is measured as 9.8 cm long. What is the real length of the path, in metres, to 1 decimal place?
- 5.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A game designer places a coin at (5, 3) on a grid. The game rotates the coin 90° clockwise about the point (2, 3) each time the player presses a button, and this is applied twice in a row. Work out the coordinates of the coin after the button is pressed twice.
- 7.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm. One of its other angles is 45°. Work out the exact length of one of the two shorter sides.
- 8.A vertical flagpole casts a shadow 6 m long at the same time as a 1.2 m vertical post casts a shadow 1.8 m long. The flagpole and the post are both vertical, and the triangles formed by each object, its shadow, and the sun's ray are similar. Work out the height of the flagpole.
- 9.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = x cm, AC = (x + 2) cm, BC = 15 cm and angle BAC = 100°. Work out the value of x. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an area of 4.71 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 12.A student is asked to rearrange the cosine rule a² = b² + c² − 2bc cos A to make cos A the subject. They write: cos A = (a² − b² − c²) / (2bc). Is the student's rearrangement correct?
- 13.A shop stacks tins in a display block. The front elevation of the block is 4 tins wide and 3 tins high. The side elevation shows the block is 2 tins deep. Every position in the block is filled. How many tins are used in total?
- 14.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle BAC = 55°. Work out the size of angle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A quadrilateral has both pairs of opposite sides parallel and equal in length, but none of its angles are right angles. Which statement about this quadrilateral is correct?
