- 1.A furniture catalogue drawing uses a scale of 1 cm to 1.5 m. A sofa in the drawing is measured as 7 cm long. What is the real length of the sofa, in metres?
- 2.A garden bed is designed as a trapezium. The two parallel sides are 8 m and 12 m, and the perpendicular distance between them is 5 m. Grass seed covers 4 m² per bag, sold only in whole bags. Work out how many bags of grass seed are needed.
- 3.A circular tabletop has a radius of 15 cm. Work out the area of the tabletop. Use π = 3.14. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 4.A parallelogram-shaped tile has two sides of 6 cm and 9 cm, with an angle of 60° between them. Work out the area of the tile. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 5.A stage designer is building a triangular platform ABC for a school play. AB = 11.5 m, AC = 8.2 m and angle BAC = 72°, the angle between them. The flooring for the platform costs £15.80 per square metre. Work out the total cost of the flooring, to the nearest pound.
- 6.In triangle ABC, AB = 15 cm, angle BAC = 38° and the area of the triangle is 61 cm². Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A cuboid has a rectangular base measuring 6 cm by 8 cm, and a height of 4 cm. Work out the angle between the diagonal from a base corner to the opposite top corner, and the base of the cuboid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A circle has a diameter of 24 cm. A sector of this circle has an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector.
- 9.A birthday cake is a cylinder of radius 10 cm and height 8 cm, with a thin ribbon fixed exactly once around the curved side, at half the height, and joined with no overlap. Work out the length of ribbon needed. Use π = 3.14.
- 10.A student draws a net using 5 identical squares arranged in a row of four with one extra square attached to the side of one of them. Can this net be folded to make a closed cube?
- 11.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A scale drawing of a park uses a scale of 1 : 2000. A path is drawn 8.5 cm long on the drawing. A cyclist rides the length of the path and then rides straight back again along the same path. How far does the cyclist travel in total, in metres?
- 13.Two similar company logos are printed at different sizes. The area of the larger logo is 2.25 times the area of the smaller logo. Work out the length scale factor from the smaller logo to the larger logo.
- 14.In triangle ABC, AB = 13 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle ABC = 35°. Given that angle ACB is obtuse, work out its size. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A triangle has one unknown side or angle, marked x. In which one of these situations should the sine rule, rather than the cosine rule, be used to find x?
