- 1.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 72° and angle ACB = 48°. Side AB = (2x + 1) cm and side AC = (3x − 2) cm. Work out the value of x. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of −3 about a fixed centre. Which statement correctly describes the image compared to the original shape?
- 3.A round cake has a radius of 10 cm. Icing costs £0.02 per square centimetre. One slice of the cake is a sector with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of icing the top of that slice, to the nearest penny.
- 4.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 58°, angle ACB = 47° and BC = 14 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 5.A triangular plot of land has sides AB = 13 m and AC = 10 m, with angle BAC = 72° between them. Work out the perimeter of the plot. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.In triangle ABC, AB = 15.6 cm, AC = 8.9 cm and angle BAC = 112°, the angle between them. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.PT is a tangent to a circle with centre O, touching the circle at T. OT is a radius. Angle OPT = 27°, where P is a point outside the circle. Work out the size of angle POT.
- 8.A ferris wheel's circular frame has centre O. A support strut runs from O to a point A on the rim, and a second strut runs from O to point B on the rim, with angle AOB = 76°. A cabin is mounted at point C on the major arc AB, and D is a separate point on the minor arc AB. Work out the difference between angle ACB and angle ADB.
- 9.A zip wire is fixed at an angle of 50° to the horizontal, running from a high platform down to the ground. The zip wire itself, from the platform to the ground, is 12 m long. Work out the horizontal distance covered by the zip wire. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A ship sails 12 km on a bearing of 070° from a harbour to a buoy. It then sails a further 9 km, still on a bearing of 070°, from the buoy to a lighthouse. How far is the lighthouse from the harbour, in kilometres?
- 11.A square-based pyramid has a square base whose diagonal is 14 cm, and each slant edge of the pyramid, from a base vertex to the apex, is 15 cm. Work out the height of the pyramid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an area of 78.5 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 13.A triangular sail for a small boat has two sides of 4.2 m and 3.6 m, with an angle of 115° between them. One litre of waterproofing paint covers 3 m² of sail. Work out the least number of whole tins of paint (1 litre each) needed to cover the sail.
- 14.A market stall sells apples at £2.40 per kilogram. Which of these expressions gives the cost, in pounds, of buying m kilograms of apples?
- 15.A car's windscreen wiper blade is 40 cm long and sweeps through an angle of 110° as it wipes the glass. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of glass it wipes, to the nearest cm².
