- 1.A regular hexagon has sides of length 8 cm. By splitting the hexagon into 6 identical triangles that meet at its centre, work out the area of the hexagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.Two similar signs have lengths in the ratio 9 : 4. The larger sign has a side of length 14.4 cm. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the smaller sign.
- 3.A shape is reflected in the line y = 1, and the image is then reflected in the line y = 4. Which single transformation is equivalent to this combination, for every point?
- 4.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm. One of its other angles is 45°. Work out the exact length of one of the two shorter sides.
- 5.A rectangle has vertices A(0, 0), B(6, 0), C(6, 4) and D(0, 4). Work out the length of the diagonal AC. Give your answer correct to 2 decimal places.
- 6.A shop stacks identical storage crates in a display. The diagram shows the plan of the floor positions used, with one corner position marked. Every floor position is filled with crates stacked 3 high, except the marked corner position, which is left completely empty. Work out how many crates are used in total.
- 7.Point P has coordinates (2, 1). Transformation A reflects a point in the x-axis. Transformation B translates a point by the vector (0, 4). Work out the coordinates of the image of P when A is applied first, followed by B.
- 8.A ferris wheel's circular frame has centre O. A support strut runs from O to a point A on the rim, and a second strut runs from O to point B on the rim, with angle AOB = 76°. A cabin is mounted at point C on the major arc AB, and D is a separate point on the minor arc AB. Work out the difference between angle ACB and angle ADB.
- 9.A student draws a net using 5 identical squares arranged in a row of four with one extra square attached to the side of one of them. Can this net be folded to make a closed cube?
- 10.A model of a bridge is built to a scale where every length on the model is 1/240 of the matching length on the real bridge. A support beam on the model measures 3.6 cm. Work out the length of the real support beam, giving your answer in metres.
- 11.ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral, with its vertices in that order around the circle. Angle DAB = 108°. Work out the size of angle BCD.
- 12.A regular pentagon has centre O. Each vertex is 8 cm from O, and each of the 5 triangles formed by joining O to the vertices is isosceles with an angle of 72° at O. Work out the area of the pentagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A ship's radar can detect other ships up to 20 km away, over a sector-shaped area with angle 90°. A monitoring company charges £0.50 per square kilometre covered by one radar sweep. Using π = 3.14, work out the total charge for one sweep.
- 14.In triangle ABC, AB = x cm, AC = (x + 2) cm, BC = 15 cm and angle BAC = 100°. Work out the value of x. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.In triangle ABC, AB = 8.6 cm, AC = 11.4 cm and angle BAC = 47°. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
