- 1.A line joins the points A(0, 0, 0) and B(9, 12, 8) in a three-dimensional coordinate system in which the z-axis is vertical. Work out the angle this line makes with the horizontal (the xy-plane). Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 2.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 3.A solid metal sphere has a radius of 5 cm. It is melted down and recast into a solid cylinder with the same radius, 5 cm. Work out the height of the cylinder, so that its volume equals the volume of the sphere. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 4.A cube has edges of length 5 cm. Work out the length of the diagonal that runs from one corner of the cube to the opposite corner. Give your answer as a surd in its simplest form.
- 5.Two hikers walk from a campsite A to a lookout B, a distance of 14 km on a bearing of 038°. From B they walk to a shelter C, a distance of 20 km on a bearing of 142°. Work out the direct distance from A to C. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.Two coastguard stations A and B are 18 km apart, with B due east of A. A boat at C is on a bearing of 062° from A and on a bearing of 315° from B. Work out the distance of the boat from station B. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, AC = 6 cm and angle BAC = 110°. Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A scale drawing shows a room that is 5 cm wide. The real room is 15 m wide. Write the scale of the drawing in the form 1 : n.
- 9.Triangle 1 has sides of 10 cm and 13 cm with an angle of 64° between them. Triangle 2 has sides of 11 cm and 12 cm with an angle of 70° between them. Which triangle has the greater area, and by how much? Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 8 cm, and one of its shorter sides is 4 cm. Work out the size of the angle between that 4 cm side and the hypotenuse.
- 11.In triangle ABC, AB = 6.4 cm, BC = 9.1 cm and AC = 12.8 cm. Work out the size of the largest angle in the triangle. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 13.In triangle ABC, AB = 11 cm, AC = 9 cm and the area of the triangle is 45 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.A composite solid is made from a cylinder of radius 3 cm and height 10 cm, with a cone of the same radius and vertical height 4 cm fixed on top, apex upward. Work out the total volume of the solid. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A stage designer is building a triangular platform ABC for a school play. AB = 11.5 m, AC = 8.2 m and angle BAC = 72°, the angle between them. The flooring for the platform costs £15.80 per square metre. Work out the total cost of the flooring, to the nearest pound.
