- 1.Two similar hexagonal tiles have lengths in the ratio 4 : 7. A side of the smaller tile is 8.4 cm long. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the larger tile.
- 2.A vertical line passes through the point (5, 2). Write down the equation of this line.
- 3.A goat is tied by a rope 7 m long to a post at a corner of a rectangular field, where two fences meet at a right angle. The goat can reach anywhere inside the field that the rope allows. Using π = 3.14, work out the area the goat can graze, to the nearest square metre.
- 4.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 72° and angle ACB = 48°. Side AB = (2x + 1) cm and side AC = (3x − 2) cm. Work out the value of x. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 5.Points P and Q have coordinates P(0, 0, 0) and Q(5, 7, 9) in a three-dimensional coordinate system, with all lengths in centimetres. Work out the distance PQ. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A mast stands vertically on level ground and its top is 60 m above the ground. Amelia and Noah stand on the ground on the same side of the mast, in line with its foot. The angle of elevation of the top of the mast is 30° from where Amelia stands and 60° from where Noah stands. Work out the distance between Amelia and Noah. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A triangular plot of land has sides AB = 13 m and AC = 10 m, with angle BAC = 72° between them. Work out the perimeter of the plot. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A ship's radar shows a lighthouse at the point (12, −4) on a grid measured in nautical miles. The ship is at (2, 5). The ship sails along the vector that takes it directly to the lighthouse, then sails along that same vector again. Work out the ship's final position.
- 9.A round cake has a radius of 10 cm. Icing costs £0.02 per square centimetre. One slice of the cake is a sector with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of icing the top of that slice, to the nearest penny.
- 10.A circular garden pond has a diameter of 5 m. A gardener is laying gravel around it in a ring-shaped path 1 m wide, measured outward from the edge of the pond. Work out the area of the gravel path. Use π = 3.14.
- 11.The bearing of a harbour B from a ferry's position A is 260°. What is the bearing of A from B?
- 12.A cube has edges of length 5 cm. Work out the length of the diagonal that runs from one corner of the cube to the opposite corner. Give your answer as a surd in its simplest form.
- 13.A party hat is in the shape of a cone with a base radius of 6 cm and a slant height of 10 cm. Work out the curved surface area of the party hat. Use π = 3.14 and the formula curved surface area = πrl.
- 14.A solid ball has a radius of 7 cm. Work out the surface area of the ball. Use π = 3.14.
- 15.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm. One of its other angles is 45°. Work out the exact length of one of the two shorter sides.
