- 1.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. P lies on AB such that AP is twice PB. Express the vector OP in terms of a and b.
- 2.A circular decoration has a radius of 10 cm. A ribbon costs £0.50 per centimetre and is fixed along the curved edge (the arc) of a sector-shaped section with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of the ribbon for this section.
- 3.A student draws a net using 5 identical squares arranged in a row of four with one extra square attached to the side of one of them. Can this net be folded to make a closed cube?
- 4.Point P has coordinates (2, 1). Transformation A reflects a point in the x-axis. Transformation B translates a point by the vector (0, 4). Work out the coordinates of the image of P when A is applied first, followed by B.
- 5.A solid cone has a base radius of 6 cm and a vertical height of 10 cm. Work out the volume of the cone. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A triangular sail for a small boat has a base of 2.4 m and a height of 1.75 m. Sailcloth costs £12.50 per m². Work out the total cost of the sailcloth needed for the sail.
- 7.Loose sweets are sold at £1.20 per 100 g. Work out the cost of 350 g of sweets.
- 8.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 9.Two identical ladders lean against the same vertical wall from opposite sides, each making an angle of 58.2° with the ground. The two ladders and the ground form a triangle. Work out the size of the angle between the two ladders at the top, where they meet.
- 10.A kitchen scale is marked in equal divisions of 20 g. The pointer rests three divisions past the 400 g mark. Work out the reading on the scale.
- 11.A warehouse stores identical cube-shaped crates. Its plan view is a 2 by 4 rectangle of crate positions, and every position is filled to a height of 3 crates, except one corner position, which has only 2 crates stacked on it because a delivery was incomplete. How many crates are there in total?
- 12.In triangle ABC, AB = 6 cm, angle ABC = 40° and AC = 9 cm. Using the sine rule, sin(ACB) = AB × sin(ABC) ÷ AC, which gives two possible values for angle ACB: 25.4° or 154.6° (each to 1 decimal place). By considering the angle sum of the triangle, decide which of these two values angle ACB can actually take, and hence work out angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A parallelogram has an area of 136 cm² and a base of 17 cm. Work out the perpendicular height of the parallelogram.
- 14.A trapezium-shaped garden bed has parallel sides of 2.5 m and 4.5 m, and a perpendicular width of 3 m. A gardener wants to know the area of the bed before ordering topsoil. Work out the area of the garden bed.
- 15.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle BAC = 55°. Work out the size of angle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
