- 1.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle BAC = 55°. Work out the size of angle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.A raised garden bed is a prism whose cross-section is a triangle with a base of 1.2 m and a perpendicular height of 0.8 m. The bed is 3 m long. Work out the volume of soil needed to fill it, in m³.
- 3.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 58°, angle ACB = 47° and BC = 14 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 4.Two similar signs have lengths in the ratio 9 : 4. The larger sign has a side of length 14.4 cm. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the smaller sign.
- 5.A hiker walks on a bearing of 065°. She then turns clockwise through 90° and continues walking in a straight line. What bearing is she now walking on?
- 6.A tap fills a tank at a rate of 18 litres per minute. The tank holds 0.45 m³. Work out how long the tap takes to fill the tank.
- 7.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm and one of its other angles is 45°. Work out the length of one of the two shorter sides. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A carpenter cuts two triangular metal brackets for a shelf. Bracket P has sides of 12 cm, 16 cm and 20 cm. Bracket Q has sides of 16 cm, 20 cm and 12 cm, listed in a different order. Before fitting them as a matching pair, the carpenter wants to check they are exactly the same shape and size. Which of the following correctly justifies this?
- 9.A sector of a circle has radius 10 cm and angle 150°. Using π = 3.14, work out the perimeter of the sector, to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A sector of a circle has radius 15 cm and angle 216°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector.
- 11.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. P lies on AB such that AP is twice PB. Express the vector OP in terms of a and b.
- 12.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an area of 4.71 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 13.A garden is made of two triangular flower beds, ABC and ACD, joined along the edge AC. In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 90°, AB = 5 m and BC = 12 m. In triangle ACD, AD = 9 m and angle CAD = 40°, the angle between AC and AD. Work out the area of flower bed ACD. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.A parallelogram-shaped tile has two sides of 6 cm and 9 cm, with an angle of 60° between them. Work out the area of the tile. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A television cable runs in a straight line from the edge of a flat roof 20 m above the ground to a bracket on a wall 5 m above the ground. The horizontal distance between the roof edge and the bracket is 15 m. Work out the length of the cable. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
