- 1.A tap fills a tank at a rate of 18 litres per minute. The tank holds 0.45 m³. Work out how long the tap takes to fill the tank.
- 2.Two identical ladders lean against the same vertical wall from opposite sides, each making an angle of 58.2° with the ground. The two ladders and the ground form a triangle. Work out the size of the angle between the two ladders at the top, where they meet.
- 3.In triangle PQR, PQ = 8 cm and QR = 11 cm. Angle QPR = 50°. A student calculates the area of the triangle as Area = 1/2 × 8 × 11 × sin 50°. Is the student's method correct?
- 4.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 5.In triangle ABC, AB = 15 cm, angle BAC = 38° and the area of the triangle is 61 cm². Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.In triangle ABC, AB = AC = 9 cm and angle ABC = angle ACB = 65°. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A model car is built to a scale of 1 : 24. The real car is 4.32 m long. Work out the length of the model, in centimetres.
- 8.A ladder of length 7 m leans against a vertical wall. The foot of the ladder is 3 m from the base of the wall. Work out how high up the wall the ladder reaches. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 9.A cylindrical water tank has a solid hemispherical dome on top, both with radius 2 m. Work out the volume of the hemispherical dome alone. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 3 decimal places.
- 10.A triangle has one unknown side or angle, marked x. In which one of these situations should the sine rule, rather than the cosine rule, be used to find x?
- 11.A shape is reflected in the line y = 1, and the image is then reflected in the line y = 4. Which single transformation is equivalent to this combination, for every point?
- 12.In triangle ABC, AB = 9 cm, BC = 6 cm and angle BAC = 35°. This description fits two different triangles. Work out the two possible sizes of angle ACB, each to 1 decimal place.
- 13.In triangle PQR, PQ = 11 cm, QR = 7 cm and PR = 13 cm. Work out the size of angle PQR. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.In triangle ABC, AB = 13 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle ABC = 35°. Given that angle ACB is obtuse, work out its size. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 90° and angle BAC = 30°. The hypotenuse AC = 12 cm. Work out the exact length of AB.
