- 1.In triangle ABC, angle BAC = 42°, angle ABC = 63° and BC = 8.4 cm. Work out the length of AC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.A garden water trough is a prism whose cross-section is a right-angled triangle with base 40 cm and height 30 cm. The trough is 120 cm long. Work out the volume of water needed to fill the trough completely.
- 3.A running track has a straight section and a semicircular bend. The bend is a semicircle with radius 32 m. Work out the length of the curved part of the bend, to 1 decimal place. (Use π = 3.14.)
- 4.Triangle JKL has a right angle at K, hypotenuse JL = 13 cm, and side JK = 5 cm. Triangle MNO has a right angle at N, hypotenuse MO = 13 cm, and side MN = 5 cm. Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 5.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an area of 78.5 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 6.A regular octagonal tabletop has centre O. Each vertex is 30 cm from O. Work out the area of the tabletop. Give your answer to the nearest square centimetre.
- 7.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 8.A circular garden pond has a diameter of 5 m. A gardener is laying gravel around it in a ring-shaped path 1 m wide, measured outward from the edge of the pond. Work out the area of the gravel path. Use π = 3.14.
- 9.A garden is made of two triangular flower beds, ABC and ACD, joined along the edge AC. In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 90°, AB = 5 m and BC = 12 m. In triangle ACD, AD = 9 m and angle CAD = 40°, the angle between AC and AD. Work out the area of flower bed ACD. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A raised garden bed is a prism whose cross-section is a triangle with a base of 1.2 m and a perpendicular height of 0.8 m. The bed is 3 m long. Work out the volume of soil needed to fill it, in m³.
- 11.Loose sweets are sold at £1.20 per 100 g. Work out the cost of 350 g of sweets.
- 12.A tent frame forms a triangle ABC, where AB = 3.5 m is a sloping pole, BC = 2.8 m is the base and AC = 4.2 m is the guy rope. Work out the size of angle ABC, between the pole and the base. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A regular hexagon has sides of length 8 cm. By splitting the hexagon into 6 identical triangles that meet at its centre, work out the area of the hexagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.Two straight paths cross at a junction in a park. One of the angles between them, measured with a protractor, is 76°. What is the size of the angle immediately next to it on a straight line?
- 15.In triangle ABC, AB = 8 cm, BC = 11 cm and AC = 6 cm. Work out the size of angle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
