- 1.In triangle ABC, AB = 10 cm, BC = 7 cm and angle ACB = 35°. Given that angle BAC is acute, work out the length of AC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 3.A scale drawing of a park uses a scale of 1 : 2000. A path is drawn 8.5 cm long on the drawing. A cyclist rides the length of the path and then rides straight back again along the same path. How far does the cyclist travel in total, in metres?
- 4.A stage designer is building a triangular platform ABC for a school play. AB = 11.5 m, AC = 8.2 m and angle BAC = 72°, the angle between them. The flooring for the platform costs £15.80 per square metre. Work out the total cost of the flooring, to the nearest pound.
- 5.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 90° and angle BAC = 30°. The hypotenuse AC = 12 cm. Work out the exact length of AB.
- 6.A scale drawing uses a scale of 1 : 60. A path on the drawing is measured as 9.8 cm long. What is the real length of the path, in metres, to 1 decimal place?
- 7.A cuboid has three different edge lengths: a length, a width and a height, all different from each other. How many rectangles make up its net in total?
- 8.A regular pentagon has centre O. Each vertex is 8 cm from O, and each of the 5 triangles formed by joining O to the vertices is isosceles with an angle of 72° at O. Work out the area of the pentagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 9.A carpenter cuts two triangular metal brackets for a shelf. Bracket P has sides of 12 cm, 16 cm and 20 cm. Bracket Q has sides of 16 cm, 20 cm and 12 cm, listed in a different order. Before fitting them as a matching pair, the carpenter wants to check they are exactly the same shape and size. Which of the following correctly justifies this?
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle BAC = 55°. Work out the size of angle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A cube has edges of length 5 cm. Work out the length of the diagonal that runs from one corner of the cube to the opposite corner. Give your answer as a surd in its simplest form.
- 12.A regular octagonal tabletop has centre O. Each vertex is 30 cm from O. Work out the area of the tabletop. Give your answer to the nearest square centimetre.
- 13.The angle between north and a cycle path is 40°, but it is measured anticlockwise from north. What is the three-figure bearing of the cycle path?
- 14.A kitchen scale is marked in equal divisions of 20 g. The pointer rests three divisions past the 400 g mark. Work out the reading on the scale.
- 15.A garden plan is drawn to a scale of 1 cm : 1.8 m. A path on the plan measures 4.5 cm. What is the real length of the path, in metres, to 1 decimal place?
