- 1.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of −3 about a fixed centre. Which statement correctly describes the image compared to the original shape?
- 2.A cheese counter sells cheddar at £8.40 per kilogram. Work out the cost of a 350 g piece of cheddar.
- 3.Two coastguard stations A and B are 18 km apart, with B due east of A. A boat at C is on a bearing of 062° from A and on a bearing of 315° from B. Work out the distance of the boat from station B. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 4.A car's windscreen wiper blade is 40 cm long and sweeps through an angle of 110° as it wipes the glass. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of glass it wipes, to the nearest cm².
- 5.A student is asked to rearrange the cosine rule a² = b² + c² − 2bc cos A to make cos A the subject. They write: cos A = (a² − b² − c²) / (2bc). Is the student's rearrangement correct?
- 6.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 58°, angle ACB = 47° and BC = 14 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A flagpole is 12 m tall. Freya stands 9 m from the base of the flagpole on level ground. Work out the angle of elevation of the top of the flagpole from where Freya stands. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 8.In triangle ABC, AB = 6 cm, angle ABC = 40° and AC = 9 cm. Using the sine rule, sin(ACB) = AB × sin(ABC) ÷ AC, which gives two possible values for angle ACB: 25.4° or 154.6° (each to 1 decimal place). By considering the angle sum of the triangle, decide which of these two values angle ACB can actually take, and hence work out angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 9.A cuboid has a rectangular base measuring 6 cm by 8 cm, and a height of 4 cm. Work out the angle between the diagonal from a base corner to the opposite top corner, and the base of the cuboid. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A goat is tied by a rope 7 m long to a post at a corner of a rectangular field, where two fences meet at a right angle. The goat can reach anywhere inside the field that the rope allows. Using π = 3.14, work out the area the goat can graze, to the nearest square metre.
- 11.In triangle ABC, AB = 6.4 cm, BC = 9.1 cm and AC = 12.8 cm. Work out the size of the largest angle in the triangle. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A surveyor is marking out field ABCD for a new crop. The plan states that side AB is parallel to side DC, but AB and DC are not equal in length, and sides BC and AD are not parallel to each other. Which term correctly describes the shape of field ABCD?
- 13.The area of triangle ABC is 42 cm². AB = 9.5 cm and angle BAC = 61°. Work out the length of AC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 15.A photocopier enlarges a document so that every length is multiplied by the same scale factor. A line on the original document is 3.2 cm long, and the same line measures 11.2 cm on the enlarged copy. A second line on the original document is 2.5 cm long. Work out the length of the second line on the enlarged copy, giving your answer to 2 decimal places.
