- 1.A regular pentagon has centre O. Each vertex is 8 cm from O, and each of the 5 triangles formed by joining O to the vertices is isosceles with an angle of 72° at O. Work out the area of the pentagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 2.In triangle ABC, AB = 8 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 24 cm². Given that angle BAC is acute, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 3.A sector of a circle has radius 9 cm and angle 40°. Work out the area of the sector, in terms of π.
- 4.A triangular flower bed ABC has AB = 14 m, BC = 9 m and AC = 11 m. Work out the area of the flower bed. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 5.In triangle ABC, AB = 11 cm, AC = 9 cm and the area of the triangle is 45 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.In triangle ABC, AB = 6.4 cm, BC = 9.1 cm and AC = 12.8 cm. Work out the size of the largest angle in the triangle. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.A photocopier enlarges a document so that every length is multiplied by the same scale factor. A line on the original document is 3.2 cm long, and the same line measures 11.2 cm on the enlarged copy. A second line on the original document is 2.5 cm long. Work out the length of the second line on the enlarged copy, giving your answer to 2 decimal places.
- 8.A solid rubber ball has a radius of 3 cm. Work out the volume of the ball. Use π = 3.14.
- 9.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of −3 about a fixed centre. Which statement correctly describes the image compared to the original shape?
- 10.A map has a scale of 1 : 20 000. The distance between two villages is 3.4 km in real life. How long is this distance on the map, in centimetres?
- 11.In triangle ABC, AB = 13 cm, AC = 9 cm and angle ABC = 35°. Given that angle ACB is obtuse, work out its size. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A composite solid is made from a cylinder of radius 3 cm and height 10 cm, with a cone of the same radius and vertical height 4 cm fixed on top, apex upward. Work out the total volume of the solid. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 13.Triangle JKL has a right angle at K, hypotenuse JL = 13 cm, and side JK = 5 cm. Triangle MNO has a right angle at N, hypotenuse MO = 13 cm, and side MN = 5 cm. Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 14.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 8 cm, and one of its shorter sides is 4 cm. Work out the size of the angle between that 4 cm side and the hypotenuse.
- 15.A rectangle has vertices A(0, 0), B(6, 0), C(6, 4) and D(0, 4). Work out the length of the diagonal AC. Give your answer correct to 2 decimal places.
