- 1.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an area of 4.71 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 2.A trapezium has an area of 45 cm², a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and one parallel side of length 10 cm. Work out the length of the other parallel side.
- 3.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 58°, angle ACB = 47° and BC = 14 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 4.In triangle ABC, AB = 6 cm, angle ABC = 40° and AC = 9 cm. Using the sine rule, sin(ACB) = AB × sin(ABC) ÷ AC, which gives two possible values for angle ACB: 25.4° or 154.6° (each to 1 decimal place). By considering the angle sum of the triangle, decide which of these two values angle ACB can actually take, and hence work out angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 5.A birthday cake is a cylinder of radius 10 cm and height 8 cm, with a thin ribbon fixed exactly once around the curved side, at half the height, and joined with no overlap. Work out the length of ribbon needed. Use π = 3.14.
- 6.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 5 : 8. A side of the smaller triangle is 6.5 cm. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the larger triangle.
- 7.Two vertical masts stand on level ground, 40 m apart. One mast is 30 m tall and the other is 50 m tall. Work out the straight-line distance between the tops of the two masts. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 8.In triangle ABC, AB = 15.6 cm, AC = 8.9 cm and angle BAC = 112°, the angle between them. Work out the area of triangle ABC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 9.A scale drawing of a park uses a scale of 1 : 2000. A path is drawn 8.5 cm long on the drawing. A cyclist rides the length of the path and then rides straight back again along the same path. How far does the cyclist travel in total, in metres?
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A field ABCD is a convex quadrilateral. AB = 40 m, BC = 32 m and angle ABC = 95°. The other two sides are CD = 25 m and DA = 36 m. Work out the area of the field. Give your answer to the nearest square metre.
- 12.Two coastguard stations A and B are 18 km apart, with B due east of A. A boat at C is on a bearing of 062° from A and on a bearing of 315° from B. Work out the distance of the boat from station B. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 13.ABCD is a cyclic quadrilateral, with its vertices in that order around the circle. Angle DAB = 108°. Work out the size of angle BCD.
- 14.A robotic arm's tip starts at the point (12.5, −4.25) on a grid measured in centimetres. It moves by the vector to pick up a component, then by the vector to place it. Work out the coordinates of the tip after both moves.
- 15.Which of these statements about solving a triangle is correct?
