- 1.The bearing of a harbour B from a ferry's position A is 260°. What is the bearing of A from B?
- 2.A solid ball has a radius of 7 cm. Work out the surface area of the ball. Use π = 3.14.
- 3.A field ABCD is a convex quadrilateral. AB = 40 m, BC = 32 m and angle ABC = 95°. The other two sides are CD = 25 m and DA = 36 m. Work out the area of the field. Give your answer to the nearest square metre.
- 4.The angle between north and a footpath is 35°, measured clockwise from north. What is the three-figure bearing of the footpath?
- 5.A circle has a diameter of 24 cm. A sector of this circle has an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector.
- 6.A footpath sign shows a distance of 0.45 km to the next village. Work out this distance in metres.
- 7.Two similar hexagonal tiles have lengths in the ratio 4 : 7. A side of the smaller tile is 8.4 cm long. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the larger tile.
- 8.The top of a clock tower is 25 m above level ground. Oliver stands on the ground 25 m from the foot of the tower. Work out the angle of elevation of the top of the tower from the point where Oliver stands.
- 9.In triangle ABC, AB = 7 cm, AC = 6 cm and angle ABC = 40°. Two different lengths of BC are possible. Given that BC is the longer of them, work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = 12 cm, AC = 7 cm and the area of the triangle is 33 cm². Given that angle BAC is obtuse, work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.In a phone game, a character starts at the point (−5, 2) on a grid. It moves by the vector to collect a coin. The player now wants the character's next single move to finish at the point (3, 0). Write down the column vector of that second move.
- 12.A room measures 4.2 m by 3.6 m. A flooring company needs the area in cm² to order the right amount of vinyl flooring. Work out the area of the room in cm².
- 13.In triangle ABC, angle ABC = 47°, AC = 12.5 cm and BC = 9.2 cm. Work out the size of angle BAC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 14.Two cylindrical storage tins are geometrically similar. The smaller tin has height 4 cm and the larger tin has height 6 cm. Work out the ratio of the surface area of the smaller tin to the surface area of the larger tin, giving your answer in the form a : b in its simplest form.
- 15.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an area of 78.5 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
