- 1.Points A, B, C and D lie on a circle with centre O, in that order around the circle, and AC is a diameter. Which of the following circle facts does NOT apply to this diagram?
- 2.Triangle JKL has a right angle at K, hypotenuse JL = 13 cm, and side JK = 5 cm. Triangle MNO has a right angle at N, hypotenuse MO = 13 cm, and side MN = 5 cm. Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 3.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 4.A regular polygon has 12 sides. Work out the size of one exterior angle of the polygon.
- 5.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 6.The diagram shows the plan of the base layer of a solid built from identical cubes. A second layer of cubes is added on top, filling the entire base layer to a height of 2 cubes everywhere. Work out how many squares are visible in the plan view of this solid.
- 7.A water tank holds 2.5 m³. Work out this volume in cm³.
- 8.Lines AB and CD are parallel. A straight line EF crosses AB at point P and crosses CD at point Q. At P, angle APE = 65°. Angle APE and angle BPQ are vertically opposite. Angle BPQ and angle PQD are co-interior (allied) angles. Work out angle PQD.
- 9.A, B and C are points on a circle with centre O. B is on the major arc AC. Angle AOC = (4x + 20)°. Work out the size of angle ABC in terms of x, in its simplest form.
- 10.A regular hexagon has sides of length 8 cm. By splitting the hexagon into 6 identical triangles that meet at its centre, work out the area of the hexagon. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A skateboard ramp is designed so that a straight rail RT is tangent to a circular curve at the point T, and TC is a chord of the curve from T to another point C on the curve. A second rail continues straight through T on the other side, so that the two rails together form a straight line, and the angle between that second rail and the chord TC is 109°. A support point D is placed on the curve, on the major arc TC. Work out the size of angle TDC, the angle subtended by the chord TC at D.
- 12.A written description of a diagram states: 'AB is marked with a single arrow, CD is marked with a single arrow, and EF is marked with a double arrow.' Using the standard convention for marking parallel lines, what can be concluded?
- 13.Point A has coordinates (2, 5). Point A is translated to point B using the column vector with top number 6 and bottom number −3. Write down the coordinates of point B.
- 14.A right-angled triangle has its two shorter sides equal to 8 cm and 15 cm. Work out the value of cos θ, where θ is the angle opposite the 8 cm side. Give your answer as a fraction.
- 15.Triangle ABC has AB = (2x + 3) cm, BC = 11 cm and angle B = 90°. Triangle DEF has DE = 13 cm, EF = 11 cm and angle E = 90°. Given that the two triangles are congruent by SAS, work out the value of x.
