- 1.Two bronze statues are geometrically similar and made from the same solid bronze. Their heights are 30 cm and 45 cm. The smaller statue has a mass of 12 kg. Work out the mass of the larger statue, in kg.
- 2.A roof has two triangular sections, P and Q. Section P has a sloping edge of 3.6 m and a base edge of 2.4 m, with an angle of 70° between them. Section Q has a sloping edge of 3.6 m and a base edge of 2.4 m, with an angle of 70° between them, arranged the same way round. A roofer wants to cut identical triangular felt panels for both sections without measuring Section Q separately. Which condition confirms that the two sections are congruent?
- 3.A scale drawing of a bridge uses a scale of 1 : 25. A support beam on the drawing measures 4.4 cm. What is the real length of the beam, in metres?
- 4.A pop-up canopy has two sloping supports that meet at the top. Each support makes an angle of 30° with the ground and is 6 m long. Using the exact value of cos 30°, work out the total width of the canopy's base.
- 5.A crane's hook starts at the point (3.4, 9.5) on a construction site plan measured in metres. It moves along the vector to pick up a beam, then along the vector to place it. Work out the single column vector that describes the hook's overall movement from its start position to where it places the beam.
- 6.A garden shed is shaped like a triangular prism: two identical vertical triangular end walls (the gable ends), joined by a sloping rectangular roof and a vertical rectangular back wall. Looking at the shed from directly above (the plan view), what shape is seen?
- 7.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 8.A furniture catalogue drawing uses a scale of 1 cm to 1.5 m. A sofa in the drawing is measured as 7 cm long. What is the real length of the sofa, in metres?
- 9.Work out the exact value of (sin 30°)² + (cos 30°)².
- 10.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. M is the midpoint of OA, and N is the midpoint of OB. Express the vector MN in terms of a and b.
- 11.A sign-maker is told a metal bracket outline must have two pairs of adjacent sides equal in length (not opposite pairs), exactly one pair of opposite angles equal, and exactly one line of symmetry. Which quadrilateral matches this description?
- 12.A quadrilateral has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1), C(6, 4) and D(2, 4). By comparing the y-coordinates of A, B and of D, C, write down whether the sides AB and DC are parallel, and give a reason for your answer.
- 13.A ladder rests against a wall, making an angle of 60° with the ground. The ladder is 2 m long. Using the exact value of sin 60°, work out how high up the wall the ladder reaches, giving your answer in centimetres.
- 14.A ramp rises at 30° to the horizontal. Its sloping surface is 4.8 m long. Safety rules say the vertical rise of a ramp must be no more than 2.5 m. Work out how far below that limit the rise of this ramp is.
- 15.In a kite, one pair of opposite angles are equal in size. In kite WXYZ, angle X = 40° and angle Z = 100° are the two angles that are NOT equal to each other. The other two angles, W and Y, are equal to each other. Work out the size of angle W.
