- 1.A regular polygon has 12 sides. Work out the size of one exterior angle of the polygon.
- 2.A rotation of 200° clockwise about the origin is applied, and the image is then rotated 250° anticlockwise about the origin. Work out the single angle of rotation, measured clockwise and between 0° and 360°, that has the same overall effect as the two rotations combined.
- 3.A designer plots a logo point at (3, 4) on a grid. She reflects it in the line y = 1 and then rotates the image 90° clockwise about the point (1, 1) to create a repeating tile pattern. Work out the coordinates of the point after both transformations.
- 4.The perimeter of a square is 20 cm. Work out the area of the square.
- 5.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 6.A roof truss has two horizontal parallel rafters, one above the other. A straight strut crosses both rafters. Where the strut crosses the lower rafter, the angle above the rafter and to the left of the strut is 65°. Work out the size of the angle above the upper rafter and to the right of the strut, where the strut crosses it.
- 7.A shape is reflected in the line y = −x. Which of these points is invariant under this reflection?y = −x
- 8.In triangle ABC, AB = 5 cm, BC = 3 cm and AC = 7 cm. Work out the size of angle ABC.
- 9.To prove that the angle at the centre is twice the angle at the circumference, a student draws radii OA and OC, where A and C are points on the circle and O is the centre. The student's first step is: 'Since OA = OC, both being radii of the circle, triangle OAC is isosceles, so angle OAC = angle OCA.' Is this first step correct?
- 10.A shop stacks tins in a display block. The front elevation of the block is 4 tins wide and 3 tins high. The side elevation shows the block is 2 tins deep. Every position in the block is filled. How many tins are used in total?
- 11.Point Q has coordinates (3, 5). It is translated by the vector (1, −2), and the image is then enlarged by scale factor 3, centre the origin. Work out the coordinates of the final image of Q.
- 12.A circle has two straight radii drawn from the centre to the edge, together with the arc between them. Write down the name of the region enclosed by these two radii and the arc.
- 13.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 3 : 4. The perimeter of the smaller triangle is 24 cm. Work out the perimeter of the larger triangle.
- 14.Triangle ABC is extended so that side BC is extended beyond C to a point D, forming exterior angle ACD. Angle BAC = 48° and angle ABC = 67°. Which single angle fact gives angle ACD = 115° in one step, without first working out the interior angle at C?
- 15.Triangle S has vertices (2, 2), (5, 2) and (2, 5). It is mapped onto triangle S′ with vertices (2, 5), (5, 5) and (2, 2). Which single composition of two transformations maps S onto S′?
