- 1.A rectangular name card has a perimeter of 30 cm. The card is 9 cm long. Work out the width of the card.
- 2.A line passes through the points (1, 2) and (3, 6). The line is reflected in the x-axis, and the image is then translated by the vector (2, 0). Work out the gradient of the image line after both transformations.
- 3.A builder props a straight plank against a vertical wall to reach a window ledge. The foot of the plank is 2.1 m from the base of the wall, and the plank is 3.5 m long. Work out how high up the wall the plank reaches.
- 4.In triangle ABC and triangle DEF, the angle at A and the angle at D are both 40°, and the angle at B and the angle at E are both 70°. No side lengths are given. Write down whether the two triangles must be similar, with the reason.
- 5.A cylinder has a volume of 942 cm³ and a height of 12 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the cylinder.
- 6.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. P is the point on OA such that OP = (1/3)a, and Q is the point on OB such that OQ = (1/3)b. Express the vector PQ in terms of a and b.
- 7.A rotation of 200° clockwise about the origin is applied, and the image is then rotated 250° anticlockwise about the origin. Work out the single angle of rotation, measured clockwise and between 0° and 360°, that has the same overall effect as the two rotations combined.
- 8.A cube has edges of length 5 cm. Work out the length of the diagonal that runs from one corner of the cube to the opposite corner. Give your answer as a surd in its simplest form.
- 9.A shape is reflected in the line y = −x. Which of these points is invariant under this reflection?y = −x
- 10.OAB is a triangle, with OA = a and OB = b. E lies on OA produced beyond A, such that A is the midpoint of OE. F lies on AB such that FB is twice AF. G is the midpoint of OB. By finding the vectors EF and EG, show that E, F and G are collinear, and give the scalar k such that EF = k × EG.
- 11.A straight line crosses two parallel lines. One of the angles formed is (2x + 10)°, and the angle alternate to it is 74°. Work out the value of x.
- 12.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
- 13.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 14.A sign-maker is told a metal bracket outline must have two pairs of adjacent sides equal in length (not opposite pairs), exactly one pair of opposite angles equal, and exactly one line of symmetry. Which quadrilateral matches this description?
- 15.A chocolate bar is a prism. Its cross-section is a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and the bar is 12 cm long. Work out the volume of the bar.
