- 1.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 2.Work out the gradient of the line segment joining A(2, 3) and B(6, 11).
- 3.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 2 : 5. The sides of the smaller triangle are 4 cm, 6 cm and 8 cm. Work out the length of the longest side of the larger triangle.
- 4.A tile manufacturer cuts a hexagonal tile so that all six sides measure exactly 4 cm, but a check shows only two pairs of the six interior angles are equal to each other, not all six angles. The customer's order specifies regular hexagonal tiles. Based on the check, is this tile a regular hexagon?
- 5.A landscaper marks out two triangular flower beds using stakes and a tape measure. Bed 1 has two edges of 5 m and 7 m, meeting at a corner with a marked angle of 60° between them. Bed 2 has edges of 5 m and 7 m, meeting at a corner also marked at 60° between them. The landscaper wants to check the two beds will be exactly the same size and shape using only these three measurements. Which condition proves the two beds are congruent?
- 6.A designer plots a logo point at (3, 4) on a grid. She reflects it in the line y = 1 and then rotates the image 90° clockwise about the point (1, 1) to create a repeating tile pattern. Work out the coordinates of the point after both transformations.
- 7.A scale drawing shows a room that is 5 cm wide. The real room is 15 m wide. Write the scale of the drawing in the form 1 : n.
- 8.Work out the exact value of (sin 30°)² + (cos 30°)².
- 9.Triangle ABC is isosceles, with AB = AC. Angle B = 70°. Which reason correctly explains why angle C = 70°?
- 10.A solid has 6 faces and 8 vertices. Using the formula F + V − E = 2, work out how many edges it has.
- 11.Lines AB and CD are parallel. A straight line EF crosses AB at point P and crosses CD at point Q. At P, angle APE = 65°. Angle APE and angle BPQ are vertically opposite. Angle BPQ and angle PQD are co-interior (allied) angles. Work out angle PQD.
- 12.At a cycling event, a circular track has centre O. Two flags, F and M, are fixed on the track. A course marker P is also on the track, positioned so that angle FOP = 55° and angle POM = 43°, with P between F and M as seen from O. A spectator S stands on the major arc FM, on the opposite side of the track from P. The event programme needs angle FSM. Work out angle FSM.
- 13.A trapezium-shaped allotment plot has two parallel sides that face each other, and two sloping sides that are equal in length (an isosceles trapezium). One of the angles next to the shorter parallel side is 118°. Work out the angle next to the other end of the same shorter parallel side.
- 14.A shape is made by joining two rectangles edge to edge, with no overlap. One rectangle measures 12 cm by 4 cm and the other measures 4 cm by 8 cm. Work out the total area of the shape.
- 15.A garden bed is designed as a trapezium. The two parallel sides are 8 m and 12 m, and the perpendicular distance between them is 5 m. Grass seed covers 4 m² per bag, sold only in whole bags. Work out how many bags of grass seed are needed.
