- 1.Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, centre the origin. A vertex of S is at (2, 1). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 2.A cheese counter sells cheddar at £8.40 per kilogram. Work out the cost of a 350 g piece of cheddar.
- 3.A robotic arm's tip starts at the point (12.5, −4.25) on a grid measured in centimetres. It moves by the vector to pick up a component, then by the vector to place it. Work out the coordinates of the tip after both moves.
- 4.A quadrilateral has all four sides equal in length and all four interior angles equal to 90°. Its diagonals are equal in length and bisect each other at right angles. Which quadrilateral matches this description exactly?
- 5.The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is 1980°. Work out the number of sides of the polygon.
- 6.Triangle E has vertices (1, 2), (4, 2) and (1, 5). It is rotated 90° anticlockwise about the origin, and the image is then reflected in the line y = x. Work out the coordinates of the image of (4, 2).y = x
- 7.A shape is made by joining two rectangles edge to edge, with no overlap. One rectangle measures 12 cm by 4 cm and the other measures 4 cm by 8 cm. Work out the total area of the shape.
- 8.A chocolate bar is a prism. Its cross-section is a triangle with a base of 6 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, and the bar is 12 cm long. Work out the volume of the bar.
- 9.Two sides of a triangle are 9 cm and 15 cm long. Write down which one of these lengths is possible for the third side.
- 10.A square-based pyramid is cut by a flat plane parallel to its base, partway up between the base and the apex. What shape is the cross-section?
- 11.In triangle ABC the angle at A and the angle at C are equal. The side AB is extended beyond B, and the exterior angle formed at B measures 98°. Work out the size of the angle at A.
- 12.A student is proving that opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral ABCD sum to 180°, letting a = angle DAB and c = angle BCD, and using the fact that the angle at the centre is twice the angle at the circumference. She has already written: 'By the angle at the centre theorem, the reflex angle BOD equals 2a and the non-reflex angle BOD equals 2c.' Which statement must come immediately after this one in a correct proof?
- 13.The point A(3, 2) is translated by the vector (−5, 4) to give point B. Work out the coordinates of B.
- 14.Point P has coordinates (4, 2). P is rotated 90° clockwise about the point (1, 1), and the image is then reflected in the line x = 1. Work out the coordinates of the final image of P.
- 15.A straight fence is 5 m long. Describe the shape of the region made up of every point on the ground within 2 m of any part of the fence.
