- 1.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 29 cm and one shorter side of 20 cm. Work out the length of the other shorter side.
- 2.A trapezium has vertices (2, 1), (6, 1), (5, 4) and (3, 4). It is rotated 180° about the vertex (2, 1). Work out the number of points on the trapezium — including its vertices, edges and interior — that are invariant under this rotation.
- 3.Work out the exact value of (cos 45°)² + (sin 45°)².
- 4.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 5.Point P has coordinates (1, 3). P is reflected in the line x = 4, then the image is reflected in the line y = 1, and then that image is translated by the vector (2, −3). Work out the coordinates of the final image of P.
- 6.Triangle ABC has AB = 6 cm and BC = 9 cm, with angle A = 40°. Triangle DEF has DE = 6 cm and EF = 9 cm, with angle D = 40°. Meera says these facts prove the triangles are congruent by SAS. Is Meera correct?
- 7.A bead starts at position (2, −1) on a grid, in centimetres. It is moved by the column vector u, with top number 3 and bottom number 5, and then moved by the column vector v, with top number −7 and bottom number 2. Work out the coordinates of the bead's final position.
- 8.In triangle PQR, PQ = 8 cm and QR = 11 cm. Angle QPR = 50°. A student calculates the area of the triangle as Area = 1/2 × 8 × 11 × sin 50°. Is the student's method correct?
- 9.A rectangular garden gate is 3 m wide and 4 m high. A straight brace runs from one corner of the gate to the opposite corner. Work out the length of the brace.
- 10.Shape S has an area of 5 cm². Shape S is enlarged by a scale factor of −3 to give shape T. Work out the area of shape T.
- 11.Triangle ABC and triangle DEF are similar. The area of triangle ABC is 36 cm² and the area of triangle DEF is 100 cm². Work out the ratio of the lengths of triangle ABC to the lengths of triangle DEF, in its simplest form.
- 12.A rectangle has vertices at (2, 1), (9, 1), (9, 5) and (2, 5). Work out the area of the rectangle.
- 13.A locus consists of all the points that are the same perpendicular distance from two parallel lines 6 cm apart. Describe this locus.
- 14.A garden shed is shaped like a triangular prism: two identical vertical triangular end walls (the gable ends), joined by a sloping rectangular roof and a vertical rectangular back wall. Looking at the shed from directly above (the plan view), what shape is seen?
- 15.Two triangles are proved congruent using the ASA condition. What can be concluded about the two remaining pairs of corresponding sides that were not part of the original ASA facts?
