- 1.In triangle ABC, AB = 8 cm, AC = 5 cm and angle BAC = 60°. Work out the value of BC².
- 2.A shape is translated by the vector and then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same effect as those two translations together.
- 3.Two bronze statues are geometrically similar and made from the same solid bronze. Their heights are 30 cm and 45 cm. The smaller statue has a mass of 12 kg. Work out the mass of the larger statue, in kg.
- 4.Two similar bottles have heights in the ratio 1 : 2. Write down the ratio of their volumes.
- 5.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm. One of its other angles is 45°. Work out the exact length of one of the two shorter sides.
- 6.A circle has a radius of 1 cm. Work out the circumference of the circle. Give your answer in terms of π.
- 7.A solid is built from centimetre cubes standing on a table. Seen from the front, the left-hand column is 2 cubes high, the middle column is 2 cubes high and the right-hand column is 1 cube high. Work out how many squares make up the front elevation.
- 8.In triangle OAB, OA = a and OB = b. M is the midpoint of OA, and N is the midpoint of OB. Express the vector MN in terms of a and b.
- 9.Two identical ladders lean against the same vertical wall from opposite sides, each making an angle of 58.2° with the ground. The two ladders and the ground form a triangle. Work out the size of the angle between the two ladders at the top, where they meet.
- 10.Two metal window frames are checked before installation. Frame A has edges of 40 cm and 65 cm, with a marked angle of 35° at the far end of the 65 cm edge, away from where the two given edges meet. Frame B has matching edges of 40 cm and 65 cm, with a matching 35° angle in the same position. The fitter wants to know if these measurements alone guarantee the two frames are congruent. What should the fitter be told?
- 11.A children's slide is built as a right-angled triangle: the vertical ladder side is 2.4 m, the horizontal base along the ground is 3.2 m, and the sloping slide is the third side. Work out the exact length of the sloping slide.
- 12.A courier drone delivers a parcel. It starts at the point (2, 1) on a map grid measured in kilometres. It flies by the vector to a warehouse, then by the vector to the delivery address. Work out the coordinates of the delivery address.
- 13.A cylinder has a volume of 942 cm³ and a height of 12 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the cylinder.
- 14.The angle between north and a footpath is 35°, measured clockwise from north. What is the three-figure bearing of the footpath?
- 15.A trapezium has parallel sides of length 6 cm and 10 cm, and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. Work out its area.
