- 1.In a construction, a point P is marked at the foot of the perpendicular drawn from point X to a straight line. Which statement correctly compares the distance XP with the distance from X to any other point on the line?
- 2.A circle with centre O has radius 17 cm. A chord AB is drawn so that the perpendicular distance from O to AB is 8 cm. Work out the length of the chord AB.
- 3.Point P has coordinates (4, 2). P is rotated 90° clockwise about the point (1, 1), and the image is then reflected in the line x = 1. Work out the coordinates of the final image of P.
- 4.An isosceles trapezium has exactly one pair of parallel sides, and its two non-parallel sides are equal in length. How many lines of symmetry does it have?
- 5.Triangle T has vertices (1, 1), (3, 1) and (1, 4). It is mapped onto triangle T′ with vertices (5, −1), (3, −1) and (5, −4). Which single composition of two transformations maps T onto T′?
- 6.Lines JK and LM are parallel. A straight line crosses JK at point P and crosses LM at point Q. Angle KPQ = 118°. Angle KPQ and angle MQP are co-interior (allied) angles. Work out angle MQP.
- 7.The bearing of a campsite B from a walker's position A is 070°. What is the bearing of A from B?
- 8.A student is proving that opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral ABCD sum to 180°, letting a = angle DAB and c = angle BCD, and using the fact that the angle at the centre is twice the angle at the circumference. She has already written: 'By the angle at the centre theorem, the reflex angle BOD equals 2a and the non-reflex angle BOD equals 2c.' Which statement must come immediately after this one in a correct proof?
- 9.Triangle XYZ has angle X = 90°. Angle Y = 34°. Work out angle Z.
- 10.Work out the y-coordinate of the midpoint of the line segment joining (2, 4) and (8, 10).
- 11.Put sin 30°, tan 30° and cos 30° in order of size, starting with the smallest.
- 12.The diagram shows a solid made from two cuboids joined together. Which shape is the front elevation of this solid?
- 13.Two similar ponds have perimeters in the ratio 4 : 11. The perimeter of the larger pond is 88 m. Work out the perimeter of the smaller pond.
- 14.A fan-shaped rug is in the shape of a sector of a circle with radius 4 m and angle 180°. It costs £4 per square metre to make. Using π = 3.14, work out the total cost of the rug.
- 15.Triangle A has vertices (2, 1), (5, 1) and (2, 4). It is translated by the vector (−3, 2) and the image is then reflected in the x-axis. Work out the coordinates of the image of (5, 1).
