- 1.Triangle ABC has AB = (2x + 3) cm, BC = 11 cm and angle B = 90°. Triangle DEF has DE = 13 cm, EF = 11 cm and angle E = 90°. Given that the two triangles are congruent by SAS, work out the value of x.
- 2.A dog is tied by a lead 4 m long to a fixed ring on a straight garden wall. The wall extends much further than the lead can reach in both directions, and the dog cannot cross through it. Describe the region the dog can reach.
- 3.A cuboid has length 3 cm, width 4 cm and height 12 cm. Work out the length of the diagonal that runs from one corner of the cuboid to the opposite corner.
- 4.Four angles meet at a point. Three of them measure 82°, 105° and 96°. Work out the size of the fourth angle.
- 5.A postcard measuring 10 cm by 15 cm is enlarged by a scale factor of 2 to make a poster. Work out the area of the poster, in cm².
- 6.A shop stacks identical storage crates in a display. The diagram shows the plan of the floor positions used, with one corner position marked. Every floor position is filled with crates stacked 3 high, except the marked corner position, which is left completely empty. Work out how many crates are used in total.
- 7.A tile manufacturer cuts a hexagonal tile so that all six sides measure exactly 4 cm, but a check shows only two pairs of the six interior angles are equal to each other, not all six angles. The customer's order specifies regular hexagonal tiles. Based on the check, is this tile a regular hexagon?
- 8.In triangle ABC, AB = 8 cm, AC = 5 cm and angle BAC = 60°. Work out the value of BC².
- 9.A rectangle has vertices A(1, 1), B(4, 1), C(4, 5) and D(1, 5). Work out the perimeter of the rectangle.
- 10.In triangle ABC, AB = 6 cm, AC = 8 cm and angle BAC = 60°. Work out the exact area of triangle ABC, giving your answer in the form .
- 11.A surveyor marks two fixed points A and B, with position vectors OA = a and OB = b (in km) from a base station O. A relay mast P is to be placed on the line AB such that AP : PB = 3 : 2. Express the vector OP in terms of a and b.
- 12.Postcard P is similar to postcard Q. The 6 cm side of P corresponds to the 15 cm side of Q, and the 8 cm side of P corresponds to a matching side of Q. Work out the length of that matching side of Q.
- 13.m is the column vector with top number 4 and bottom number 6. n is the column vector with top number −6 and bottom number −9. Given that n = k × m for some number k, work out the value of k.
- 14.Lines GH and JK are parallel. A straight line crosses GH at point M and crosses JK at point N. Angle HMN = 71°. Angle HMN and angle MNK are alternate angles. Work out angle MNK.
- 15.A quadrilateral has two pairs of parallel sides. All four of its interior angles are right angles, but its sides are not all the same length. Which quadrilateral is this?
