- 1.A pinhole camera is set up at a pitch-side stand, with its aperture at the point O = (2, 1) on a grid. Light from the corner F of a triangular flag, at the point (4, 2), passes through the aperture and forms an inverted image on the film behind it. The projection is an enlargement of scale factor −1.5 centred at O. Work out the coordinates of the image of corner F.
- 2.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 3.Shape S is enlarged by scale factor −1, centre (0, 0). Which single transformation has the same overall effect as this enlargement, for every point?
- 4.A trapezium-shaped allotment plot has two parallel sides that face each other, and two sloping sides that are equal in length (an isosceles trapezium). One of the angles next to the shorter parallel side is 118°. Work out the angle next to the other end of the same shorter parallel side.
- 5.A transversal crosses a pair of parallel lines. At one line, the angle is (5x + 4)°. The corresponding angle at the other line is (3x + 24)°. Work out the value of x.
- 6.PT is a tangent to a circle with centre O, touching the circle at T. C is a point on the circle such that C lies inside angle OTP (the right angle between the radius OT and the tangent PT), and OC is a radius. Angle TOC = 130°. Work out the size of angle PTC, the angle between the tangent PT and the chord TC.
- 7.A rectangular gate is braced with a diagonal strut. The gate is 1.2 m wide and 0.9 m tall. Work out the exact length of the diagonal strut.
- 8.A photograph is 10 cm wide and 15 cm tall. It is enlarged to make a similar poster that is 40 cm wide. The poster costs £0.80 per centimetre of its height to print, based on its full height. Work out the cost of printing the poster.
- 9.Triangle T has a vertex A at (3, 1). It is enlarged by a scale factor of −2, centre (1, 1). Work out the coordinates of the image of point A.
- 10.A quadrilateral has two pairs of parallel sides. All four of its interior angles are right angles, but its sides are not all the same length. Which quadrilateral is this?
- 11.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 12.The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is 1980°. Work out the number of sides of the polygon.
- 13.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 3 : 4. The perimeter of the smaller triangle is 24 cm. Work out the perimeter of the larger triangle.
- 14.OABC is a parallelogram, with OA = a and OC = c. M is the midpoint of AB. Express the vector MC in terms of a and c.
- 15.A regular polygon has an exterior angle of 45°. Work out the number of sides of the polygon.
