- 1.A cube-shaped storage tank has a volume of 15,625 cubic centimetres. Work out the length of one edge of the tank.
- 2.A bag holds 5 different sweets. Noah takes 2 of the sweets out of the bag together, so the order in which he takes them does not matter. Work out how many different pairs of sweets he could take.
- 3.A carton of orange juice holds 1.35 litres. Ruby pours the juice equally into 4 identical glasses. Work out how much juice is in each glass, giving your answer as a fraction of a litre in its simplest form.
- 4.A shop buys boxes of pens for £4 each. It sells each box on to a school for £3 more than it paid, and charges an extra £2 delivery fee for the whole order. A school orders 5 boxes. Work out the total cost of the order.
- 5.The thickness of a sheet of card is 0.02384 cm. Write this thickness correct to 2 significant figures.
- 6.A café is planning its lunch menu. It will offer one soup from 3 choices and one sandwich from 4 choices, but the mushroom soup, one of the 3 soups, will only be served with the cheese sandwich, one of the 4 sandwiches, on a normal day. Work out how many different soup-and-sandwich combinations are available on a normal day.
- 7.A car travels 100 km, correct to the nearest km, in a time of 2 hours, correct to the nearest 0.1 hour. Work out the average speed, in km/h, to the greatest degree of accuracy the bounds can guarantee.
- 8.A netball team has 8 players. Two of them are chosen to be captains, and the two captains have equal standing. Work out how many different pairs of captains could be chosen.
- 9.A gym increases its membership price by 1/5. The original price is £60. Work out the new price.
- 10.3/5 of the students in a year group walk to school. 90 students walk to school. Work out the total number of students in the year group.
- 11.A restaurant adds a service charge of 15% to a bill of £120. Work out the service charge.
- 12.Put these numbers in order, starting with the smallest: 3.2 × 10⁴, 2.9 × 10⁵, 4.1 × 10³
- 13.The density of a metal is calculated using density = mass ÷ volume. A sample has a mass of 156 g, correct to the nearest gram, and a volume of 12 cm³, correct to the nearest cm³. Work out the minimum possible density, in g/cm³.
- 14.Round 0.006482 to 2 significant figures.
- 15.A crowd of 8,400 people is recorded correct to the nearest 100. Work out the smallest possible number of people in the crowd.
