- 6.A speed camera measures a car's speed as 34 mph, correct to the nearest mph. Work out the smallest possible actual speed of the car, in mph.
- 7.A café offers sandwiches with one filling from 5 choices and one type of bread from 4 choices. Cheese and mustard, which is one of the 5 fillings, is not available on gluten-free bread, which is one of the 4 breads. Work out how many different sandwiches are possible.
- 8.A rectangular garden has a length of 12.4 m and a width of 7.5 m, each measured correct to 1 decimal place. Calculate the upper bound for the area of the garden.
- 9.3/5 of the students in a year group walk to school. 90 students walk to school. Work out the total number of students in the year group.
- 10.Work out (8 × 10⁻⁵) × (5 × 10³). Give your answer in standard form.
- 11.The diameter of an artificial silk fibre is 4 × 10⁻⁶ metres. One nanometre is 10⁻⁹ metres. Work out the diameter of the fibre in nanometres.
- 12.A café is planning its lunch menu. It will offer one soup from 3 choices and one sandwich from 4 choices, but the mushroom soup, one of the 3 soups, will only be served with the cheese sandwich, one of the 4 sandwiches, on a normal day. Work out how many different soup-and-sandwich combinations are available on a normal day.
- 13.Ten players enter a chess tournament. Every player plays every other player exactly once. Work out how many games are played in the tournament.
- 14.A charity raises 8 × 10⁶ pounds. This total is shared equally among 2 × 10² local projects. Work out how much each project receives, in standard form.
- 15.Work out (4 × 10³) × (3 × 10¹). Give your answer in standard form.
