- 1.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 2.By listing systematically, work out how many two-digit multiples of 5 can be made using the digits 0, 3 and 5, if each digit can be used at most once and the number cannot start with 0.
- 3.In a science experiment, the temperature of a liquid is recorded as 18.6 °C, correct to the nearest 0.2 °C. Write down the error interval for the actual temperature, T °C.
- 4.A bag holds 5 different sweets. Noah takes 2 of the sweets out of the bag together, so the order in which he takes them does not matter. Work out how many different pairs of sweets he could take.
- 5.Work out (4 × 10³) × (3 × 10¹). Give your answer in standard form.
- 6.A recipe uses 0.625 kg of flour. Write this mass as a fraction of a kilogram, in its simplest form.
- 7.The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,000 km. Write this distance in standard form, in kilometres.
- 8.Write these decimals in order, starting with the smallest: 0.6, 0.55, 0.601, 0.5, 0.56
- 9.A speed camera measures a car's speed as 34 mph, correct to the nearest mph. Work out the smallest possible actual speed of the car, in mph.
- 10.The thickness of a sheet of card is 0.02384 cm. Write this thickness correct to 2 significant figures.
- 11.A plank of wood is 5 1/4 m long. Pieces of length 3/4 m are cut from it. Work out how many complete pieces of 3/4 m can be cut from the plank.
- 12.A florist has 5 different flowers. Freya picks 3 of them to make a small bunch, and the order in which she picks them does not matter. Work out how many different bunches she could make.
- 13.A café buys 18 boxes of teabags at £3.45 each, and sells all the teabags for £108 in total. Work out the café's profit.
- 14.A car travels 100 km, correct to the nearest km, in a time of 2 hours, correct to the nearest 0.1 hour. Work out the average speed, in km/h, to the greatest degree of accuracy the bounds can guarantee.
- 15.Petrol costs £1.48 per litre. Sam buys 35 litres and pays with three £20 notes. Work out his change.
