- 1.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 2.An allotment is divided into two plots in the ratio 2:3. The larger plot has an area of 18 m². Work out the fraction of the total area taken up by the smaller plot.
- 3.Work out 6² − 4².
- 4.Work out −4.5 + 2.8.
- 5.A rectangular field measures 19.6 m by 48.3 m. Work out an estimate for the area of the field, by rounding each length to 1 significant figure.
- 6.Round 0.006482 to 2 significant figures.
- 7.A netball team has 8 players. Two of them are chosen to be captains, and the two captains have equal standing. Work out how many different pairs of captains could be chosen.
- 8.A carpenter has a plank of wood 4.8 m long. She cuts off 3 pieces, each 0.9 m long, to make shelves. Work out the length of wood remaining.
- 9.Write these fractions in order, starting with the smallest: 2/3, 3/5, 5/6, 1/2
- 10.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
- 11.Round 592.5 to the nearest 10.
- 12.Simplify (5² × 2³)³ ÷ (5³ × 2²)²
- 13.Simplify x⁶ ÷ x²
- 14.A country has an area of 25,000,000 hectares. Write this area in standard form.
- 15.Write 200 as a product of its prime factors, using index notation.
