- 1.A number, y, is equal to 8.2 when rounded to 1 decimal place. Write down the error interval for y.

- 3.Four locations each record a temperature one winter morning. Which of these temperatures is the coldest?
- 4.A number is multiplied by 4, then 8 is added, giving the result 40. Work out the number.

- 6.Ten players enter a chess tournament. Every player plays every other player exactly once. Work out how many games are played in the tournament.
- 7.Oliver drives 95 km at an average speed of 50 km/h. Work out an estimate for the time the journey takes, by rounding the distance to the nearest 100 km.
- 8.Expand and simplify (2 + √3)², giving your answer in the form a + b√3.
- 9.At a bus station one bus leaves every 6 minutes and another leaves every 9 minutes. The two buses leave together at the start of the day. Work out how long it is until they next leave together.
- 10.A number is divided by 5, then 6 is subtracted, giving the result −1. Work out the number.

- 13.A spreadsheet shows that 812 − 397 = 315. Work out an estimate for 812 − 397, by rounding each number to the nearest 100, to check whether the spreadsheet's answer is reasonable.
- 14.A recipe uses 160 g of flour. Sam wants to increase the amount by 1/4. Work out the new amount of flour.
- 15.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
