- 1.A rectangular field measures 19.6 m by 48.3 m. Work out an estimate for the area of the field, by rounding each length to 1 significant figure.
- 2.Two-digit numbers are formed using the digits 2, 5, 7 and 8, and each digit may be used only once in a number. Work out how many of these two-digit numbers are even.
- 3.Write down the exact decimal value of the fraction 1/6.
- 4.Work out an estimate for 79.3 − 24.6, by rounding each number to the nearest whole number.
- 5.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.

- 7.At a bus station one bus leaves every 6 minutes and another leaves every 9 minutes. The two buses leave together at the start of the day. Work out how long it is until they next leave together.
- 8.A semicircle has a diameter of 8 cm. Work out the exact area of the semicircle, in terms of π.
- 9.Without using a calculator, estimate √20 × √12, giving your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 10.Work out (−2)³ + (−3)² − (−4)
- 11.n is a whole number and 2 ≤ n < 6. Write down all the possible values of n.
- 12.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 8 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 13.A circle has a circumference of 8π cm. Work out the exact area of the circle in terms of π.
- 14.Simplify x⁶ ÷ x²
- 15.The recurring decimal 0.454545... can be written as 0.45 recurring, where both digits repeat forever. Let x = 0.45 recurring. Work out x as a fraction in its simplest form.
