- 1.Given that 4³ = 64 and 5³ = 125, estimate ∛100 to 1 decimal place.
- 2.Priya has 24 red beads and 36 blue beads. She makes identical bracelets, using every bead and with none left over. Work out the greatest number of bracelets she can make.
- 3.In standard form, 2,000 is written as 2 × 10ⁿ. Write down the value of n.

- 5.An allotment plot is divided into vegetables and flowers in the ratio 9 : 4. A third of the vegetable section is used for potatoes. What fraction of the whole plot is potatoes?
- 6.At a book fair the ratio of fiction books to non-fiction books is 4 : 5. Of the non-fiction books, 3/5 are about history. Work out the fraction of all the books at the fair that are history books.
- 7.A lift has a safe working load of 500 kg. Four people get in the lift and the lift's display records their total mass as 493 kg, correct to the nearest kg. Decide whether the four people are definitely within the safe working load.
- 8.Round 0.006852 to 2 significant figures.
- 9.A florist has 5 different flowers. Freya picks 3 of them to make a small bunch, and the order in which she picks them does not matter. Work out how many different bunches she could make.
- 10.A number is divided by 5, then 6 is subtracted, giving the result −1. Work out the number.
- 11.Tickets for a fairground ride are sold in packs of 6. Tokens for the dodgems are sold in packs of 10. Yusuf wants to buy the smallest number of packs of each so that he ends up with the same number of ride tickets as dodgem tokens. Work out how many ride tickets that is.
- 12.A lorry travels 105 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Work out its average speed in miles per hour.
- 13.Work out an estimate for 8,900 ÷ 29, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 14.A length, L cm, has the error interval 24.5 ≤ L < 25.5. Write down the degree of accuracy to which the length was measured.
