- 1.During one night on a mountain, four hikers each recorded the temperature they felt: Ben −6 °C, Priya −2 °C, Sam −9 °C, Alex 1 °C. Work out the difference between the coldest and the warmest of these four temperatures.
- 2.A quarter-circle has a radius of 6 cm. Work out the exact perimeter of the quarter-circle, giving your answer in terms of π.
- 3.Work out the value of 6² − 4³.
- 4.Hannah works out 3.1 × 19.6 on her calculator and writes down 6.076. Work out an estimate for 3.1 × 19.6, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 5.A plank has length a = 12 cm and a second plank has length b = 7 cm, each correct to the nearest centimetre. Work out the upper bound of a + b.
- 6.A plank of wood is 5 1/4 m long. Pieces of length 3/4 m are cut from it. Work out how many complete pieces of 3/4 m can be cut from the plank.

- 8.Find the missing number: 17 × ▢ = 391
- 9.Nadia has £84. She spends 3/7 of it on a jacket and the rest on a bag. Work out the ratio of the amount spent on the jacket to the amount spent on the bag, in its simplest form.
- 10.Write these three numbers in order of size, starting with the smallest: 0.7, 3/4, 0.72
- 11.Four locations each record a temperature one winter morning. Which of these temperatures is the coldest?
- 12.4ˣ = 64. Work out the value of x.
- 13.Decide which of 2³⁰ and 3²⁰ is the larger number, and write down the correct statement.
- 14.Work out how many factors 36 has.
- 15.A roll of ribbon is 8.4 m long. Ribbon is cut into pieces that are each 0.6 m long. Work out how many complete pieces can be cut from the roll.
