- 1.In a music collection, the ratio of pop albums to rock albums is 5 : 3. Work out the number of rock albums as a fraction of the number of pop albums.
- 2.Simplify 5⁻² × 5⁴, giving your answer as a single power of 5.
- 3.Work out (4 × 10⁻³) × (2 × 10⁵). Give your answer in standard form.
- 4.A recipe uses 0.625 kg of flour. Write this mass as a fraction of a kilogram, in its simplest form.
- 5.Work out how many factors 100 has.
- 6.c = 50, correct to the nearest 10. d = 18, correct to the nearest whole number. Work out the upper bound of c − d.

- 10.A digital timer truncates every time to 1 decimal place. It shows a swimmer's time for one length as 12.3 seconds. Using t for the swimmer's actual time in seconds, write down the error interval for t.
- 11.Sam compares 0.6 and 5/8 by comparing the digit 6 with the digit 5, and says that 0.6 is the larger number. Convert 5/8 to a decimal to find the correct larger value.
- 12.In standard form, 2,000 is written as 2 × 10ⁿ. Write down the value of n.
- 13.Simplify √45.
- 14.A rectangular patio measures 90 cm by 120 cm. Ben wants to cover it exactly with identical square tiles, as large as possible, with no tiles cut. Work out the side length of the largest square tile he can use.
- 15.A number is multiplied by 4, then 8 is added, giving the result 40. Work out the number.
