- 1.In a science experiment, the temperature of a liquid is recorded as 18.6 °C, correct to the nearest 0.2 °C. Write down the error interval for the actual temperature, T °C.
- 2.A cinema has 250 seats. 12% of the seats are reserved. Work out how many of the seats are reserved.
- 3.A spreadsheet shows that 812 − 397 = 315. Work out an estimate for 812 − 397, by rounding each number to the nearest 100, to check whether the spreadsheet's answer is reasonable.
- 4.A café is planning its lunch menu. It will offer one soup from 3 choices and one sandwich from 4 choices, but the mushroom soup, one of the 3 soups, will only be served with the cheese sandwich, one of the 4 sandwiches, on a normal day. Work out how many different soup-and-sandwich combinations are available on a normal day.
- 5.The decimal 0.2333... has one non-recurring digit (the 2) followed by a single recurring digit (the 3), so it can be written as 0.2 recurring 3. Let x = 0.2333... . Work out x as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 6.Work out an estimate for 2.9² + 3.1², by rounding each number to the nearest whole number.
- 7.Work out the value of 6² − 4³.
- 8.A garden path is measured by Jon as 12 m, correct to the nearest metre, and by Mia as 12.6 m, correct to the nearest 0.1 m. Which statement about the two measurements is correct?

- 13.A charity trek covers 830 miles over roughly 19 days. By rounding each number to 1 significant figure, work out an estimate for the number of miles walked per day.
- 14.A space probe is 7.5 × 10⁸ km from Earth. Write this distance as an ordinary number.
- 15.£60 is shared between Amir, Bo and Chen in the ratio 1:2:3. Work out the fraction of the £60 that Amir and Bo receive together.
