- 1.The length of a pencil is 8.4 cm, correct to 1 decimal place. Using L for the length of the pencil in centimetres, write down the error interval for L.
- 2.Work out 3 1/5 + 1 2/3. Give your answer as a mixed number in its simplest form.
- 3.Three-digit numbers are made using the digits 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9. No digit may be used twice in the same number. Work out how many of these three-digit numbers are odd.
- 4.A triangle has a base of 8 cm and a perpendicular height of 5 cm, each correct to the nearest centimetre. Work out the upper bound of the area.
- 5.Four friends share a restaurant bill of £53.90 equally. A calculator gives each share as 13.475. Work out how much each friend should pay.
- 6.Round 0.006852 to 2 significant figures.
- 7.A padlock code is formed from 3 different digits chosen from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (no digit may be used twice in the same code). Work out how many different codes can be made.
- 8.Work out 1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 exactly, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 9.A concrete mix is made from cement and sand in the ratio 3 : 5 by mass. A builder mixes 96 kg of concrete. Work out the mass of cement in the mix.
- 10.Write these fractions in order, starting with the smallest: 2/3, 3/5, 5/6, 1/2
- 11.Simplify x⁷ × x⁴, giving your answer as a single power of x.
- 12.Which of these statements about −0.7 and −0.25 is true?
- 13.Amelia estimates 48 × 21 by working out 50 × 20 = 1,000. Work out whether her estimate is an under-estimate or an over-estimate, and by how much.
- 14.A cycle route is 350 m long. A footpath runs alongside it for 3/7 of that length. Work out the length of the footpath.
- 15.Work out ((−3) + 5) × (−4) − (−6) ÷ 2
