- 1.A choir has sopranos, altos and tenors in the ratio 6 : 4 : 5. What fraction of the choir is not tenors?
- 2.Insert one pair of brackets into 2 + 3 × 5 − 1 so that the calculation is equal to 24. Which calculation is correct?
- 3.To estimate the cost of buying 38.7 m of rope at £21.40 per metre, both numbers are first rounded to 1 significant figure. Work out the estimate.

- 9.Work out an estimate for 6.4 × 3.9, by rounding each number to the nearest whole number.
- 10.Work out √225 ÷ 3.
- 11.Decide which of 2³⁰ and 3²⁰ is the larger number, and write down the correct statement.
- 12.c = 50, correct to the nearest 10. d = 18, correct to the nearest whole number. Work out the upper bound of c − d.
- 13.A roll of ribbon is 8.4 m long. Ribbon is cut into pieces that are each 0.6 m long. Work out how many complete pieces can be cut from the roll.

- 15.Work out (−2)² − 3
