- 1.A number, n, is a multiple of both 6 and 9. Work out the smallest possible value of n that is greater than 20.
- 2.A roll of ribbon is 8.4 m long. Ribbon is cut into pieces that are each 0.6 m long. Work out how many complete pieces can be cut from the roll.
- 3.Work out an estimate for 8,900 ÷ 29, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 4.Work out 3 + 4 × (−2).
- 5.A number is multiplied by 4, then 8 is added, giving the result 40. Work out the number.
- 6.A measuring jug shows a volume of 340 ml, correct to the nearest 20 ml. Work out the smallest possible volume in the jug.
- 7.Simplify (x⁻²)³, giving your answer as a fraction.
- 8.A cinema has 250 seats. 12% of the seats are reserved. Work out how many of the seats are reserved.
- 9.Rice is sold in a 400 g bag for £1.12 and in a 1.5 kg bag for £3.90. Work out how much less the rice in the larger bag costs per kilogram.
- 10.Simplify (5² × 2³)³ ÷ (5³ × 2²)²
- 11.Work out 2 3/4 − 1 5/6. Give your answer as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 12.The decimal 0.272727... repeats the block 27 for ever. Write 0.27 recurring as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 13.A set of kitchen scales displays the mass of a bag of sugar as 0.63 recurring kilograms, meaning 0.636363... kg with the block '63' repeating forever. Convert this mass to a fraction of a kilogram, then work out the mass in grams, giving your answer to the nearest gram.
- 14.The density of a type of plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out this density in kg/m³.
- 15.Work out (−2)³ + (−3)² − (−4)
