Owl Catapult — an aim-and-launch maths game
Set the angle and power, launch, and hit the target marked with the correct answer.
What you practise here
Estimation and angle alongside arithmetic: every launch requires judging distance and choosing the target that solves the question.
How to play
Drag back to set direction and power, then release to launch. Hitting the correct target scores points; a miss costs an attempt. Targets get further away and smaller as you progress.
Who it's for, and why it works
Year 3 to GCSE.
The arcing flight path gives a physical feel for estimation — how much is 'a lot' and how much is 'a bit too much' — which is exactly the missing link for children who calculate correctly but can't sense whether an answer is reasonable.
