- 1.The diagram shows the graph of a quadratic function. Which equation could it represent?
- 2.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 takes these values: when x = −2, y = 0; when x = −1, y = −5; when x = 0, y = −8; when x = 3, y = −5; when x = 4, y = 0. Use these values to write down the two solutions of x² − 2x − 8 = 0.y = x² − 2x − 8
- 3.The triangular numbers begin 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, ... Work out the next term in the sequence.
- 4.Solve (3x + 2)/5 = (x + 4)/3
- 5.Solve x² − 6x = 0.
- 6.A gas company charges a standing charge plus a rate per unit used. The total cost, y in pounds, for using x units is given by y = 0.15x + 20. Work out the cost of using 200 units.y = 0.15x + 20
- 7.Jack is x years old. His brother Kwame is 3 years older than Jack. Write down an expression for Kwame's age.
- 8.A graph has equation y = x² − 6x + 5. A student says its turning point has x-coordinate 6, because that's the coefficient of x. Which statement corrects the student's mistake?y = x² − 6x + 5
- 9.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 10.a = 2 and b = 5. Work out the value of ab².
- 11.Work out the value of 5y + 9 when y = 0
- 12.A hot air balloon is at a height of 20 m and rises at a steady rate. After 4 minutes it is at a height of 52 m. Work out the rate at which the balloon rises, in metres per minute.
- 13.Solve 4x − (2x − 6) = 18
- 14.Factorise fully 12x² + 18x.
