- 1.A rule multiplies the input by a fixed number and then adds a fixed number. An input of 1 gives an output of 5, and an input of 3 gives an output of 11. Work out the rule, writing the input as x and the output as y.
- 2.The formula connecting distance (d), speed (s) and time (t) is d = st. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 3.Work out the equation of the straight line that passes through (−2, 3) and (4, −9).
- 4.Which expression is equivalent to 3(x + 4) − 2(x − 1)?
- 5.A distance-time graph shows a car travelling at a constant speed, covering 90 km in 2 hours. Work out the car's speed in km/h.
- 6.The cost, in pounds, of hiring a van for d days is given by the formula C = 25 + 18d. A customer's hire cost £133. Work out how many days, d, they hired the van for, by first rearranging the formula to make d the subject.
- 7.A ball's height, h metres, t seconds after being thrown follows h = (t − 1)(9 − t). Given that the ball is at ground level at t = 1 and t = 9, work out at what time t the ball reaches its maximum height, using symmetry.
- 8.y = 3x − 2. Work out the value of y when x = 4.y = 3x − 2
- 9.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 10.A straight line passes through the points (0, 4) and (1, 9). Write down the gradient of the line.
- 11.The point C is 6 units to the right of the origin and 0 units up. Write down the coordinates of C.
- 12.Make a the subject of the formula b = 20 − a.
- 13.The mean of four numbers is 12.5. Three of the numbers are 8, 15 and 19. Form an equation using n for the fourth number, and solve it to find n.
